PASSION, 2026

PASSION is part of the group exhibition UNRuly at M16 Artspace, Canberra, from 30 July to 23 August, alongside sculptor Catherine Anselmi and ceramicist David Helmers.

Murray and Burgess’s collaboratively-made charcoal portraits in PASSION celebrate the women elders of Australian art, who, despite being largely unacknowledged, continue/d their practices past the age of 75. In depicting these ‘unruly’ women, Ro Murray and Mandy Burgess work over each other’s drawings, showing the process of the often-futile struggle to unite their different gestures. The resulting sketchiness and imperfections allow the women’s lively presences to emerge.

Opening drinks with the artists is on Thursday 30 July 6 to 8 pm, at M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Cres, Griffith ACT. Gallery hours are from Wednesdays to Sundays, 12 to 5pm.

Ro Murray and Mandy Burgess will be at the gallery on Saturday and Sunday 1 - 2 August, and on Sunday 23 August.
